This is what happened.....

 

Join us at Beckenham Place Mansion on August 14th and dip in and out of an exciting range of activities. From String Quartets to Samba, hopefully there's something you'll enjoy! Curated by Classical PopUps, 'Inside Out' is a jam-packed day and everybody is very welcome. Some events are ticketed, some are free - some inside, some outside, and we have some great ticket bundle deals on offer. There will be food and drink available throughout the day, with pop-up stalls from the fabulous team at Peckish! 

We are taking over the stunning rooms inside the Mansion House to bring you live performances, an art and botanical craft exhibition, yoga and fitness classes and family music workshops.

We welcome back Neal's Yard Remedies - consultant Jane Aebi will be resident for the day with an array of fabulous products. Pop in to the Drawing Room at Beckenham Place Mansion and chat to Jane about all things Neal's Yard!

There will also be a ticketed event combining live music from the Classical PopUps String Quartet with discussions revolving around well-being, the gorgeous Rose range from Neal's Yard and lots more. Of course there will be a free goody bag for all ticket holders! Step into the Classical Yard for an hour of true relaxation, well-being exploration and beautiful live music.

Local artist Tríona Milne will be resident in the Billiards Room with a display of her gorgeous watercolours and acrylic creations. Check out her work here. Tríona will be happy to discuss commissions and will have a range of pieces for sale on the day. 

Rachel Van-der-Tang runs the brand new company Wild Meadow Creative and we are so excited that she can join us for the day. Rachel's handmade botanical casts are stunning! She will also be situated in the Billiards Room for the day.

Come and enjoy a hands-on, mindful terrarium workshop with Studio HOIME. HOIME stands for Here’s One I Made Earlier, and specialises in curating DIY kits for people to enjoy a new craft or hobby, without having to buy the necessary components in bulk quantities. Nikki Brickles - Founder of HOIME will host the workshop, providing all the materials and step-by-step guidance. Each element will be fully explained and you will build a stunning terrarium! With your own choice of plants and decorative elements, this is a unique opportunity to create something stunning to take home at the end of the day.

The fabulous Jessie Grimes will be joined by members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and South London Samba, and will lead a couple of hour-long family music workshops. Particularly Suitable for children aged 5-12 and their accompanying grown ups, but everyone is welcome at these participatory sessions - no musical experience neccessary! Clapping, singing, creating, listening and story-telling, this is a perfect way for little people to experience some exciting music making. 

Jessie leads creative workshops for the RPO, CLS, Ulster Orchestra and Sinfonia Viva. She is passionate about making classical music accessible for all and particularly enjoys working with young children, people with SEND and adults with dementia.

Jessie was named a 2019 BBC Next Generation Voice and has been writing and recording short segments for BBC Radio 3’s Essential Classics.

Yoga with Naomi - 10am and 5pm

in the stunning setting of the Old Library. 

 

Hatha flow (10am-11am)

An invigorating flow class designed to cultivate calm and clarity for your heart, mind and body. Expect to sweat through intelligently sequenced Asana that will leave you feeling lighter and stronger. Open to all!

Restorative flow Yoga with live cello (5pm-6:15pm)

Admission £14

A gentle flow for healthy joints with a strong focus on breath-work before luxuriating into held restorative postures, and finally resting in stillness. 

A deeply relaxing and rebalancing practice with live cello.

WERK It Out Fitness - 9:30 and 11:30

WERK It Out Fitness specialises in fitness, nutrition and general well-being. Having always had a keen interest in fitness, through swimming training from a young age to regular running and gym-based training over the past 15 years, David O’Leary gained his Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training in order to help others to achieve their own fitness goals. Whether you’re an exercise novice or experienced gym-goer, David’s main aim is to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for you to explore new and exciting ways to exercise and improve your overall health and fitness. 

With a variety of services on offer such as online personal training, 1:1 in person training, online group classes and nutritional advice, David has a broad client base that stretches from New York to Europe. Through carefully devised programmes of bodyweight workouts, gym based workouts and nutrition plans, David’s clients have experienced significant improvements in cardiovascular health, strength, weight management and overall fitness. 

Legs, Bums and Tums (9.30am)

Admission £12 - bring your own mat

A great working for your abs, legs and butt! Crunch, step, squat and leg your way to a healthier you with this circuit based class. Suitable for all levels of fitness. All you need is a mat and your own bodyweight.

Total Body Circuits (11.30am)

Admission £12 - bring your own mat

Work up a sweat in this total body conditioning class. Through repetition of bodyweight exercises you will challenge your cardiovascular and muscular endurance, allowing you to improve your fitness in both areas. Suitable for all levels of fitness. All you need is a mat and your own bodyweight!

The Welcome Choir - 2-3pm - Free Event Outside

Any donations will be gratefully received and will go directly to Water Aid.

The Welcome Choir will perform outside in Beckenham Place Park - providing a selection of uplifting music.

The choir is Led by Katie Rose and is based at St John the Evangelist in SE19, not far from Beckenham, so we are delighted that they can join us for 'Inside Out'.

An inclusive, welcoming choir who enjoy socialising and singing global a cappella songs, working towards fun events and are said to laugh as much as they sing! A few words from the choir "Be well, be safe, breathe deep and keep singing loudly!"

South London Samba Youth Band - 6:30pm - Free Event Outside

South London Samba is a collective of energetic carnival drummers who blend world rhythms with their fresh South London vibe. They are heavily influenced by the rhythmic culture from South America, the Caribbean and Africa.

South London Samba has performed as part of the 2019 Cricket World Cup Opening Ceremony, with the Black Eyed Peas (UEFA Champions League Final 2017), O2 Arena, Lovebox, Love Supreme, Elrow Town, We Out Here, X The Tracks and many more.

'Shifts' - Classical PopUps Ensemble - 7:15pm

Specialising in unusual line-ups, new arrangements and an exciting approach to contemporary music, our Ensemble brings you a mix of brilliant music to end our day. of events. Featuring music by the wonderful composer Trish Clowes -Trish has been described as “an improviser to be reckoned with” (Downbeat Magazine) and “one of the most agile and original jugglers of improv and adventurous composition to have appeared in the UK in recent times” (John Fordham, the Guardian). Lauded for her imaginative approach to improvisation and composition, Clowes is currently an Associate Artist at Wigmore Hall, and has released six critically acclaimed albums.

The idea of 'Shifts' is to blend together musical genres, shifting bewteen styles and creating a varied performance for everyone to enjoy. The Ensemble this evening consists of a String Quintet, Trumpet, Trombone and Percussion with music for various combinations. We end the evening with a selection of light, jazz numbers and a touch of tango by Piazzolla.
